The Parkinson's Institute and Clinical Center - Constituent Management With Salesforce
The Parkinson's Institute and Clinical Center (PICC) works tirelessly to provide comprehensive patient care while discovering new treatment options to improve the quality of life for all Parkinson’s patients and a cure for PD.
PICC achieves this mission through a variety of ways – from helping patients manage their symptoms with personalized care, conducting cutting-edge clinical trials, participating in drug trials, collaborating on innovative research with partners, and publishing hundreds of articles on Parkinson’s treatment and research. All of this is done with the patient experience as a central focus for their work.
Our Engagement
In 2019, PICC contacted OneTenth Consulting for guidance in moving from Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge to Salesforce’s Nonprofit Cloud. It was determined that Salesforce’s Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) would provide a comprehensive view of PICC’s constituents, with a more simplified architecture and intuitive interface than Raiser’s Edge. Over the course of the next two months, OneTenth and PICC partnered together to implement Salesforce.
The implementation included…
Installation of the Salesforce platform
Key configurations to reflect PICC’s terminology and processes
Data migration from Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge
End-User Training, including real-time sessions and short “how-to” videos.
Post-Deployment Support, providing guidance and support throughout the “stabilization” phase
The data mapping and design phase of the Salesforce solution also gave PICC the opportunity to re-evaluate current processes and focus on those data points that provide the most meaningful insights.
Migrating data from Blackbaud to Salesforce+NPSP was a critical factor for success, but was also the most challenging component, as the data models were quite different. However, with the PICC and OneTenth teams working closely together and making key business decisions collaboratively along the way, the implementation finished on-time and on-budget with key relevant data intact, and a foundation set for future growth.
Technology and Tools
The Parkinson’s Institute chose Salesforce for several reasons:
Ability to leverage Salesforce.org’s Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) application that provides best-in-class features to support nonprofits such as complex gift processing, grant management, and high-touch fundraising
Access to the Power Of Us Hub community to exchange ideas and best practices with thousands of nonprofits with similar needs as the Parkinson’s Institute
Access to the AppExchange, a marketplace of new and innovative tools readily available to extend Salesforce’s functionality and enhance the user’s experience
Ability to create custom modules to support non-fundraising tasks, such as program management, event registration, and impact measurement
What’s Next
Adhering to OneTenth’s “crawl, walk, run” approach to CRM which implements new functionality in small but impactful phases, the Parkinson’s Institute now has a simplified yet powerful foundation to build its fundraising program on. In future phases, PICC may consider an integration allowing online donations to flow directly into Salesforce.
Working with OneTenth Consulting on our CRM migration has been a pleasure (not sure I’ve ever seen "CRM migration and pleasure” used in the same sentence). We presented a workable, but tight timeframe to complete our migration from Raisers Edge to Salesforce by yearend and OneTenth executed with professionalism, precision, and timeliness. I’ve been through CRM migrations with other organizations I would describe as painful and disappointing. Rubin was attentive to details and able to explain each step of the process clearly, exceeding our expectations. We also have engaged OneTenth Consulting for training and appreciate the quick responses, resources provided, and solutions made available to our team. I would gladly recommend OneTenth Consulting for their services and stellar work ethic!” - Cheryl Gardner, Chief Philanthropy Officer, Parkinson’s Institute and Clinical Center
We are inspired by PICC’s leadership in the field of Parkinson’s treatment and their passionate work toward finding a cure. Their work is not only advancing the treatment and research of Parkinson’s Disease, but they are also transforming the lives of thousands of patients and their families. We are very grateful to partner with such an impactful organization - Rubin Singh, OneTenth Consulting Founder & CEO
