Strengthening Communities: Streamlined Operations and Amplified Impact with Salesforce

The Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC) has been a cornerstone of support for the growing Korean immigrant community in New York City for over 35 years. KAFSC addresses the needs of domestic violence and sexual assault victims through prevention and intervention programs that are sensitive to the cultural context of the Korean-American community. While their primary focus is on serving Korean-Americans, KAFSC’s commitment extends to all individuals in need, regardless of race, gender identity, or background. As a dynamic organization, KAFSC is driven by a mission of social justice and equity, working to create a society where all individuals can thrive.

The Challenge: Before adopting Salesforce, KAFSC relied on separate systems for managing fundraising, donor relations, event registration, and case management. Key tasks like tracking client interactions, generating donor reports, and gathering data for funders were time-consuming and often siloed across different platforms. Without a centralized system, KAFSC struggled to capture the full story of its impact, missing critical insights necessary for strategic decision-making and reporting to key stakeholders.

The Solution: Recognizing the need for a more integrated approach, KAFSC partnered with OneTenth Consulting to implement a customized Salesforce solution that would consolidate their data, streamline operations, and provide a 360-degree view of their constituents. The implementation was carried out in stages, following OneTenth’s “crawl, walk, run” methodology, ensuring a thoughtful and strategic rollout. The following key components were part of the solution:

  1. Constituent Management: KAFSC’s Salesforce implementation leveraged the Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) to centralize all constituent data—participants, donors, volunteers, and partners. By migrating donor and volunteer data from disparate systems into Salesforce, KAFSC eliminated data silos, providing a holistic view of their supporters. This allowed them to track engagement and personalize communications, enhancing constituent relationships and driving deeper engagement.

  2. Program Management: The Program Management Module (PMM) was introduced to monitor participant involvement across KAFSC’s diverse programs, such as counseling, economic empowerment, and housing. This system simplified program enrollment, tracked participation, and captured critical outcome data. The scalability of PMM also provided KAFSC with the flexibility to onboard new programs as their service offerings evolve, ensuring they can meet the changing needs of the community.

  3. Case Management: Case management became more efficient and client-centered with the introduction of custom workflows and tools within Salesforce. KAFSC now tracks individual cases, documenting interactions, support services provided, and outcomes in a way that is trauma-informed and culturally sensitive. By having all case information centralized, staff can quickly assess a client’s history, ensuring consistent, high-quality support across all touchpoints.

  4. Fundraising: Integrating Salesforce with the online donation platform Give Lively, KAFSC was able to refine its fundraising efforts. This enabled a seamless flow of donation data into Salesforce, providing real-time updates on donor engagement and automating the generation of donor reports. These insights helped the development team optimize fundraising strategies, engage donors more effectively, and meet funding goals.

  5. Reporting and Analytics: Salesforce’s powerful reporting and analytics tools allowed KAFSC to build custom dashboards that track program engagement, event participation, and volunteer activity. This new visibility into key metrics not only reduced time spent on manual reporting but also empowered KAFSC to make data-driven decisions, optimizing their resource allocation and measuring the true impact of their work.

Impact: With Salesforce as its central hub, KAFSC has transformed the way it operates. Manual processes were automated, reducing administrative burdens and increasing data accuracy. The team now spends less time gathering reports and more time focusing on what truly matters—delivering impactful programs and expanding their reach in the community. KAFSC leadership can now access real-time insights into their operations, making it easier to report outcomes to funders, identify areas for improvement, and strategically plan for the future.

Future Roadmap: Looking ahead, KAFSC plans to further enhance its fundraising capabilities by integrating grants management and marketing communications into Salesforce. These advancements will ensure KAFSC continues to grow sustainably and maintain strong relationships with donors and stakeholders.

"Working alongside KAFSC has been an inspiring and humbling journey. Their unwavering commitment to strengthening families and communities reflects the heart of what meaningful change looks like. With Salesforce, we’ve helped simplify their operations and harness the power of their data to drive deeper impact. It’s a privilege to support an organization that is enriching lives, and we are excited to witness the continued ripple effects of their transformative work.” - Rubin Singh, CEO of OneTenth Consulting

The partnership between KAFSC and OneTenth Consulting has demonstrated the transformative power of technology when paired with a deep understanding of nonprofit needs. With Salesforce as a foundation, KAFSC is better positioned than ever to serve its community, achieve its goals, and tell the full story of its impact.
